Biography

Robert Primes is an American cinematographer. Born in San Francisco in 1940, he studied mathematics at Reed College and classical piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He began working in still photography and documentaries in San Francisco before relocating to Hollywood, where he has been active as a director of photography since 1975.

His feature credits include Bird on a Wire (1990), The Hard Way (1991), Money Talks (1997), A Murder of Crows (1999) and Baadasssss! (2004). Television work encompasses Quantum Leap, Thirtysomething, Felicity and Las Vegas. He has also been credited as Bob Carras.

Primes is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers. He has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Cinematography, for the 1995 television film My Antonia and the 1999 series Felicity.
