Biography

Robert Robertson (3 July 1930 – 17 January 2001) was a Scottish actor and theatre director. He was best known for playing Doctor Stephen Andrews in the television series Taggart.

Born in St Andrews, Fife, his career began with the Manchester Repertory Theatre shortly after the Second World War. He later moved to London, appearing in roles including Dr Grimwig in Oliver! at the New Theatre. In 1973 he returned to Scotland and joined the Dundee Repertory Theatre, serving as its artistic director from 1976 to 1992.

Other credits include Collinson in the Doctor Who serial The Ambassadors of Death (1970) and the Chairman in Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves (1996). He died of a heart attack while performing on stage in Perth.
