Biography
Roberto Saviano is an Italian writer, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Naples in 1979, he studied philosophy at the University of Naples Federico II before beginning his career in investigative journalism in the early 2000s, writing for publications including Diario and Il manifesto.
His 2006 book Gomorrah, an account of the Camorra crime syndicate, became an international bestseller. Saviano contributed to the screenplay, story and novel for the 2008 film adaptation directed by Matteo Garrone. His other works include ZeroZeroZero (2013) and Piranhas (2016). Since the publication of Gomorrah he has lived under police protection following death threats.
Saviano has received awards including the Premio Viareggio for Gomorrah.
