Biography
Rosita Marstini (19 September 1887 – 24 April 1948) was a French-born dancer, stage performer and film actress who worked in American silent and sound pictures. Born in Nancy, France, she married Belgian actor and director Paul Sablon (also credited as Paul Bourgeois) in 1913 and moved with him to the United States that year.
She began her screen career at Universal Pictures in 1913 with A Prisoner in the Harem and appeared under names including Countess de Merstina and Madame Paul Bourgeois. Marstini performed on the Pantages vaudeville circuit from 1916. Among her credits are A Tale of Two Cities (1917), Blood and Sand (1922), The Red Lily (1924) and The Big Parade (1925), in which she played Melisande’s mother. Her first sound film was Hot for Paris (1929); later appearances include Mexicana (1945) and Casbah (1948).
