Biography
Rosy McEwen is a British actress. She studied History of Art at the University of Leeds before training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Born Rosy Byrne, she adopted her mother's maiden name to distinguish herself from the Australian actress Rose Byrne.
McEwen is known for her lead performance as Jean Newman in the 2022 film Blue Jean, for which she won the British Independent Film Award for Best Lead Performance. On television she has appeared in The Alienist (2020) as Libby Hatch, Close to Me (2021) as Sash Harding, Black Mirror (2025) and the Prime Video series Scarpetta (2026) as the younger Kay Scarpetta. Her other film roles include Vesper (2022), Apartment 7A (2024) and Harvest (2025). She has also worked in theatre, including as Desdemona in a National Theatre production of Othello.
