Biography
Roy Chiao (also credited as Hong Qiao, Roy Chao and Hung Chiao) was a Hong Kong-American actor. Born in Shanghai in 1927, he served as an interpreter and captain in the United States Army during the Korean War before beginning his film career in Hong Kong in the mid-1950s.
He appeared in around ninety films, including leading roles in 1950s and 1960s Hong Kong productions and later supporting parts in Enter the Dragon (1973), A Touch of Zen (1970), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) as Lao Che, The Protector (1985) and Bloodsport (1988). He won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Summer Snow (1995).
Chiao immigrated to Seattle in 1964 and died there in 1999.
