Biography
Roy Christopher was an American art director and production designer. Born Roy Christopher Hergenroeder on 27 December 1935 in Fresno, California, he earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Fresno in 1957. He began his television career in the early 1970s as an art director on series including The Name of the Game.
Christopher worked extensively on sitcoms, serving as production designer or art director on Welcome Back, Kotter, Murphy Brown, Wings, NewsRadio and all 11 seasons of Frasier (1993–2004), for which he received an Emmy Award in 2004. He designed sets for numerous Academy Awards telecasts from 1979 onwards, winning ten Primetime Emmys for the Oscars and other awards shows. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2017 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Art Directors Guild in 2004.
Christopher died on 2 February 2021 in West Hollywood, California. He was married to Dorothy Christopher for more than 50 years.
