Biography
Rudolf Meinert (born Rudolf Bürstein) was an Austrian film director, producer and screenwriter. Born in Vienna on 28 September 1882, he worked primarily in the German film industry and established himself with silent crime and detective films, often producing and directing through his own company Meinert-Film.
In the post-First World War period he served as head of production at the Decla studio. He is credited as producer on The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). Meinert directed dozens of films between the 1910s and 1930s, including Der Hund von Baskerville (1914) and later sound features such as Alles für die Firma (1935).
Of Jewish descent, he left Germany after the Nazi rise to power and was later arrested in France. He was deported to Majdanek concentration camp, where he was murdered in March 1943.
