Biography
Rudolf Schündler was a German actor and director. Born Rudolf Ernst Paul Schündler on 17 April 1906 in Leipzig, he began his stage career in 1926 and appeared in films from 1924. He worked in Berlin cabarets and theatres during the 1930s, and directed more than two dozen productions in the 1950s and 1960s.
Schündler appeared in over 250 film and television roles, often as a character actor in comedies. Early credits include Hardy in Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933). He co-founded the Munich cabaret Die Schaubude after the Second World War. His international roles include Karl in The Exorcist (1973) and Professor Milius in Suspiria (1977). He was married to actress Christine Laszar and had a son, producer Oliver Schündler. Schündler died of a heart attack on 12 December 1988 in Munich, shortly after completing The Nasty Girl (1990).
