Biography
Sir Run Run Shaw was a Hong Kong film and television producer and businessman. Born in Shanghai in 1907, he co-founded the Shaw Brothers studio with his brother Runme and built one of Asia's largest film production companies, responsible for more than a thousand films over several decades.
Shaw Brothers specialised in martial arts and wuxia pictures, including Come Drink with Me (1966), The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) and Five Fingers of Death (1972). Shaw also invested in Western productions and is credited as co-executive producer on Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982). In 1967 he established Television Broadcasts (TVB), which became Hong Kong's leading free-to-air network.
He received the CBE and was later made a Grand Bauhinia Medal. Shaw died in Hong Kong in 2014.
