Biography
Russ Meyer was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor. He directed, produced and edited Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965).
Born Russell Albion Meyer on 21 March 1922 in San Leandro, California, he began making amateur films as a teenager. He served as a combat cameraman in the US Army during the Second World War and later photographed centre-folds for Playboy. His feature directorial debut was the nudie-cutie The Immoral Mr. Teas (1959). Meyer became known for a series of low-budget sexploitation films, among them Vixen! (1968), Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970), Supervixens (1975) and Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens (1979). He died in Los Angeles on 18 September 2004.
