Biography
Ruth Warrick was an American actress and singer. She made her film debut as Emily Norton Kane, the first wife of the title character, in Orson Welles's Citizen Kane (1941). She had trained as a singer and worked in radio before Welles selected her for the role after seeing a photograph and hearing her voice.
Warrick appeared in further films including Journey into Fear (1943), Song of the South (1946) and Daisy Kenyon (1947). She became best known for her long-running role as the matriarch Phoebe Tyler Wallingford on the soap opera All My Children, which she played from the show's debut in 1970 until shortly before her death. She received Emmy nominations for her television work.
