Biography
Ryo Kase is a Japanese actor. He was born on 9 November 1974 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, and spent his early childhood in Bellevue, Washington, until the age of seven. He made his screen debut in 2000 in Sogo Ishii's Gojoe: Spirit War Chronicle.
Kase is known for his role as Superior Private Shimizu in Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima (2006). He starred as the lead in Masayuki Suo's I Just Didn't Do It (2007) and has appeared in films including Hirokazu Koreeda's Nobody Knows (2004) and Our Little Sister (2015), Takeshi Kitano's Outrage (2010) and Beyond Outrage (2012), Gus Van Sant's Restless (2011), Abbas Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love (2012), Martin Scorsese's Silence (2016), and Andrew Levitas's Minamata (2020).
For his performance in I Just Didn't Do It, Kase received the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actor and other domestic awards.
