Biography
Sam Painter, also credited as Samuel Painter, is a cinematographer and camera operator. He has worked extensively on documentaries, serving as director of photography on Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015), Spielberg (2017), Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine (2015) and Jane Fonda in Five Acts (2018).
He received a Primetime Emmy nomination and has two nominations in total. Other credits include Laurel Canyon (2020), Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos (2024) and Billy Joel: And So It Goes (2025). Painter appeared as 60 Minutes camera operator in the film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021).
