Biography
Sandy Baron was an American actor and comedian who worked in theatre, film and television. Born Sanford Irving Beresofsky in Brooklyn, New York, he began performing in the Borscht Belt resorts and with the Compass Players improv group before making his Broadway debut in Tchin-Tchin (1962). He appeared in further stage productions including Arturo Ui, Generation and the title role in Lenny.
Baron played Jack Klompus in recurring episodes of the sitcom Seinfeld and appeared in films such as Targets (1968), Birdy (1984), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), Sid and Nancy (1986) and The Grifters (1990), in which he played a doctor. He also featured in Law & Order and other television series. He died in Los Angeles in 2001.
