Biography

Sandy Fries is a television writer. Born in New York City on 26 October 1954, he earned a BA in journalism from Clark University and an MS from Columbia University, where he held an NBC fellowship.

He wrote the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Coming of Age' (1988) and served as a staff writer and story editor on the series. His other credits include episodes of Quantum Leap (1989), Fame (1984), ThunderCats (1985), the animated Spider-Man (1994), Superboy (1988) and The Smurfs (1981). He was also story editor on several Star Trek video games and contributed to Star Trek: Voyager.

Fries received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his work on The Smurfs. He has worked as a freelance journalist for the Los Angeles Times and is a professor of mass communication and writing at the College of DuPage. He is the author of Secrets Your Textbook Will Not Tell You: About TV, Movies and Life.
