Biography
Santiago Fillol is an Argentine director and screenwriter. Born in Córdoba in 1977, he studied communication sciences, philosophy and letters, and film-making in Argentina before completing a doctorate in audiovisual communication at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, where he has taught since settling in the city in 2000.
He is best known for his long collaboration with director Óliver Laxe as co-writer on the features Mimosas (2016), Fire Will Come (2019) and Sirāt (2025). Fillol has also directed the features Ich bin Enric Marco (2009, co-directed) and Matadero (2022). His screenwriting has received awards including the best screenplay prize at the 2019 Mar del Plata Film Festival for Fire Will Come, and nominations for Sirāt at the Goya Awards, Feroz Awards and European Film Awards.
