Biography
Sarah Padden was an English-born American character actress in theatre and film. Born Sarah Ann Padden on 16 October 1881 in Sunderland, England, she emigrated to the United States as a child and began her stage career in the early twentieth century, appearing on the Orpheum vaudeville circuit and on Broadway from 1906.
She made her screen debut in 1926 and worked steadily in films and television until 1958, often in supporting or uncredited roles as landladies, housekeepers and mothers. Among her credits was the part of Mrs. Gardner in the 1931 film Bad Girl. She also appeared in Grand Hotel (1932), Anna Karenina (1935), This Gun for Hire (1942) and Hangmen Also Die! (1943). Padden died on 4 December 1967 in Los Angeles, California.
