Biography
Sarah Smith is a British television and film producer, and later a director and screenwriter. She began her career in radio and worked as a producer on live-action British comedy programmes, including the Armistice news review shows.
Smith produced the radio series of The League of Gentlemen after discovering the performers at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1996. She went on to produce the first television series, which aired on BBC Two in 1999, and successfully argued for an increased budget to support on-location filming.
She later directed the animated feature films Arthur Christmas (2011) and Ron's Gone Wrong (2021), and co-founded the animation studio Locksmith Animation.
