Biography
Sarah Y. Mason was an American screenwriter. Born Sarah Yeiser Mason on 31 March 1896 in Pima, Arizona, she began working in Hollywood in the silent era and became one of the first to specialise in script supervision and continuity as the industry moved to sound films.
She frequently collaborated with her husband, writer and director Victor Heerman, whom she married in 1921. Together they adapted Little Women (1933) for the screen, winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Their other credits include the screenplay for Stella Dallas (1937). Mason also contributed to The Broadway Melody (1929) and later adaptations such as Little Women (1949) and Magnificent Obsession (1954). She died in Los Angeles on 28 November 1980.
