Biography
Selma Diamond was a Canadian-born American comedian, actress and writer. She began her career writing humour for radio and television, contributing to programmes including The Big Show, and later worked on series such as Caesar's Hour. She also published cartoons and essays in The New Yorker.
Diamond appeared in films including It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), My Favorite Year (1982), Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) as Mrs. Weinstein, and All of Me (1984). On television she played bailiff Selma Hacker in the first two seasons of Night Court (1984–1985) and had a recurring role in Too Close for Comfort. She received Emmy nominations for her writing and acting work.
She died of lung cancer in Los Angeles on 13 May 1985, aged 64.
