Biography
Shane Connaughton is an Irish writer and actor. Born on 4 April 1941 in Kingscourt, County Cavan, he grew up in the village of Redhills and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
He is best known as co-writer, with Jim Sheridan, of the screenplay for the 1989 film My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also co-wrote the screenplays for the Academy Award-winning short The Dollar Bottom (1980) and the 1992 film The Playboys, and adapted his own novel The Run of the Country for the screen in 1995. His other credits include television work and the novels A Border Station (1989) and The Run of the Country (1991).
Connaughton has appeared as an actor in films and television series including Coronation Street, Four Days in July (1984) and The Miracle (1991). He won the Hennessy Award for New Irish Writing in 1985.
