Biography

Sherwan Haji is a Finnish-Syrian actor, filmmaker and writer. Born on 18 March 1985 in Dêrik, Syria, he graduated from the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts in Damascus and moved to Finland in 2010. He later completed a Master of Arts in Film and TV Production at Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom.

Haji is known for his role as Khaled in Aki Kaurismäki's The Other Side of Hope (2017), for which he received the Best Actor award at the Dublin International Film Festival. He has appeared in supporting roles in Cairo Conspiracy (2022) as Soliman, Fallen Leaves (2023) as a Parakin resident, Elyas (2024) and Eagles of the Republic (2025). He has also directed and written short films, including My Name Is Hope (2025).
