Biography
Shigemasa Toda (also credited as Jūshō Toda or Jusho Toda) was a Japanese art director and production designer. Born in Tokyo on 3 February 1928, he died on 25 January 1987. He began working in film in the 1950s as an assistant art director and received his first art director credit in 1962.
Toda collaborated frequently with director Nagisa Ōshima, contributing production design or art direction to films including Violence at Noon (1966), Boy (1969), Death by Hanging (1968), In the Realm of the Senses (1976, also costume design), and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983). He also worked on Harakiri (1962) and Kwaidan (1965). He received two wins and two nominations from Japanese film awards.
