Biography
Shigeru Kōyama was a Japanese actor. Born on 16 January 1929 in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, he joined the Bungakuza theatre troupe in 1952, initially as a directorial assistant before becoming an actor. He made his film debut in 1953 in Tadashi Imai's An Inlet of Muddy Water and left Bungakuza in 1963 to work with other troupes.
Kōyama appeared in numerous films and television productions over more than six decades. He is credited as Ohashi in Black Rain (1989) and had roles in Kwaidan (1965), Samurai Rebellion (1967), Kill! (1968), The Man Who Stole the Sun (1979), Antarctica (1983), Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995), Azumi 2: Death or Love (2005) and Beyond Outrage (2012). He was also known for his work in NHK taiga dramas and the series The Guardman. He died on 3 January 2017 in Kyoto Prefecture.
