Biography

Shingo Usami is a Japanese actor based in Sydney, Australia. Born and raised in Osaka, he studied at university in Tokyo, where he joined an amateur theatre group. After graduating in 1992, he taught Japanese in Milwaukee, United States, for three years before moving to Australia in 1996. He began working in film, television, theatre and multimedia from 1997.

Usami is known for roles including Shingo in Red Dog (2011), the Driver in The Wolverine (2013), Corporal Kono in Unbroken (2014), Henry Nakayama in the second season of The Terror (2019), Akira Hashimoto in Invasion (2021), and Clyde Raines in NCIS: Sydney (2025). He has also appeared in The Pacific (2010) and directed the short film RICEBALLS (2015). In theatre, he has performed in productions including Miss Saigon and co-directed The Face of Jizo (2023), for which he received nominations at the Sydney Theatre Awards.
