Biography
Shinichi Himori, also credited as Shin'ichi Himori and born Kazuo Moriyama, was a Japanese film actor. He appeared in more than seventy films between 1925 and 1959. Born in Tokyo in 1907, he joined Shochiku studios in 1924 and progressed from supporting roles to leading parts, particularly in realistic films following the introduction of sound.
He is known for roles including Ryosuke Nonomiya in Yasujirō Ozu's The Only Son (1936), Minoru Uchida in There Was a Father (1942), and Kimura in Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru (1952). Other credits include Scandal (1950). After the Second World War he took on supporting roles.
Himori died of a heart attack in 1959 at the age of 52. Shochiku held a company funeral in his honour.
