Biography
Shin'ichirō Ikebe (born 15 September 1943) is a Japanese composer of contemporary classical music and film scores. He was born in Mito, Ibaraki, and studied composition with Tomojirō Ikenouchi, Akio Yashiro and Akira Miyoshi at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, completing a master's degree in 1971.
He has composed the music for numerous films, including Akira Kurosawa's Kagemusha (1980), Dreams (1990), Rhapsody in August (1991) and Madadayo (1993), as well as Shōhei Imamura's The Ballad of Narayama (1983) and The Eel (1997). He has also written symphonies, operas and theatre music. Ikebe has served as a professor at the Tokyo College of Music.
