Biography
Shirley Kurata is an American wardrobe stylist and costume designer based in Los Angeles. She studied fashion design at Studio Berçot in Paris and has worked as a stylist since the 1990s, collaborating with Rodarte on collections and runway shows since the label’s launch in 2006. Her clients have included Billie Eilish, Pharrell Williams and Tierra Whack.
Kurata received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design for her work on the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once, for which she also won the Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film. She designed the costumes for I Love Boosters (2026), directed by Boots Riley. Other credits include Opus (2025). She is married to Charlie Staunton and co-owns the Los Angeles store Virgil Normal.
