Biography
Shirley Temple was an American actress who began her film career as a child in 1932. She achieved international fame with Bright Eyes (1934) and starred in a series of popular musicals including Curly Top (1935), Heidi (1937) and The Little Princess (1939). She received a special Juvenile Academy Award in 1935 for her contribution to motion pictures.
Temple continued acting into her teens and early twenties, appearing in films such as Since You Went Away (1944) as Bridget Hilton, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947) and Fort Apache (1948). She retired from feature films in 1950. Later, under her married name Shirley Temple Black, she served as a United States diplomat, including as ambassador to Ghana (1974–1976) and to Czechoslovakia (1989–1992), and as Chief of Protocol of the United States (1976–1977).
