Biography
Shōji Sakai is a Japanese film editor and director. He entered the film department of Tama Art School (now Tama Art University) in 1968 and graduated in 1971. He then worked as an assistant editor under Shunji Takemura and Osamu Tanaka, and later as an assistant director to Kōji Seki before becoming an independent editor around 1975.
Sakai has edited more than 1,200 films, including over 1,000 theatrical releases as of 2017, with much of his work in pink films. He is credited as editor on Warriors of the Wind (1984), the English-language adaptation of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
