Biography
Shūichi Kakesu is a Japanese film and television editor. Born on 1 January 1957 in Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture, he graduated from the first class of the Yokohama Broadcasting Film College (now Japan Film University).
He began his career at Okayasu Promotion under editor Hajime Okayasu, later establishing his own studio before co-founding Jay Film. In 1994 he became one of the first in the Japanese film industry to adopt non-linear editing systems. Kakesu has edited numerous anime and live-action productions, including Ghost in the Shell (1995), Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (2001), Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999) and Samurai Champloo (2004). In 1996 he received the Asahi Digital Entertainment Grand Prize theatre category individual award.
