Biography
Shunzo Kato (加藤 俊三, also credited as Shunzō Katô) is a Japanese film and television producer. Born on 9 November 1946 in Onoda, Yamaguchi Prefecture, he left Meiji Gakuin University in 1969 and joined Tokyo Movie (later TMS Entertainment) in 1971, progressing to production roles from the mid-1970s.
He served as producer on the animated feature Akira (1988), alongside Ryōhei Suzuki. Other credits include producer on The Rose of Versailles (1979–1980), Ashita no Joe 2 (1980–1981), Cat's Eye (1983–1985) and Space Cobra (1982–1983), and co-producer on Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland (1989). He later held senior executive positions at TMS Entertainment and, from 2006, at Sotsu.
Kato received the Cultural Affairs Agency Commissioner Award in 2023 and the anime merit award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2024.
