Biography

Si Mohamed Baghdadi (also credited as Mohamed Baghdadi) was an Algerian actor, born on 26 June 1937 in Souk Ahras and who died on 2 September 2023. He is known for his uncredited performance as Larbi Ben M'hidi in Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers (1966). He also appeared as narrator or in his own role in the 1965 documentary Les Mains Libres.

Baghdadi had a distinguished career in sport and education. A national champion in the 800 m and 4×400 m, he served as president of the Algerian Athletics Federation from 1967 to 1969 and as president of the Algerian Olympic Committee from 1988 to 1989. He worked as a professor of literature and school administrator before holding senior positions in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
