Biography

Sid Watkins (1928–2012) was a British neurosurgeon and the medical delegate to Formula One from 1978 to 2004. He introduced on-site medical teams, rapid-response vehicles and other safety measures that substantially reduced fatalities in the sport.

Watkins appeared as himself in the documentary Senna (2010), providing interviews about his friendship with Ayrton Senna and his presence at the 1994 Imola crash. He is also credited in 1 (2013) and other motorsport documentaries. He was appointed OBE and wrote the memoir Life at the Limit.
