Biography

Siegfried Breuer (1906–1954) was an Austrian stage and film actor who also directed and wrote films on occasion. Born in Vienna, he was the son of actor and operatic tenor Hans Breuer. He trained at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and made his stage debut at the Volkstheater there in 1924.

Breuer appeared in more than fifty films between 1939 and 1954, often in German-language productions. He is known for his role as Popescu in Carol Reed’s The Third Man (1949). He directed, wrote and starred in Der Schuß durchs Fenster (1950). His son Siegfried Breuer Jr. and grandchildren Jacques Breuer and Pascal Breuer also worked in the entertainment industry.
