Biography

Silke Buhr is a German production designer. Born on 26 October 1966 in Löhne, she completed a carpentry apprenticeship, studied interior architecture at Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe and gained a postgraduate qualification in film and television production design at FH Rosenheim in cooperation with the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München.

She has worked as a production designer since 1997. Her credits include The Lives of Others (2006), Who Am I (2014), Never Look Away (2018) and Berlin Alexanderplatz (2020). She received the German Film Prize for best production design for The Lives of Others, Poll (2010/2011), Who Am I and Berlin Alexanderplatz.

Buhr teaches production design at institutions including the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. She is a member of the German Film Academy and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2019.
