Biography
Simon J. Smith is a British animator, film director and voice actor. Born in Watford, he began his career in London working in post-production and computer graphics before joining PDI/DreamWorks Animation in 1997 as head of layout.
He supervised layout on Antz (1998) and Shrek (2001), and directed the theme park attraction Shrek 4-D (2003) and the short Far Far Away Idol (2004). Smith made his feature directorial debut co-directing Bee Movie (2007) with Steve Hickner. He later co-directed Penguins of Madagascar (2014) with Eric Darnell, and has directed shorts including Megamind: The Button of Doom (2011). He has also provided voice work and won an Emmy for the Disney series Baymax Dreams.
