Biography
Sir Lancelot, born Lancelot Victor Edward Pinard, was a Trinidadian calypso singer and actor. He began his career performing classical music before switching to calypso in New York in 1940, adopting his stage name and quickly gaining popularity in the United States.
He appeared in more than 15 films from the early 1940s onwards, including I Walked with a Zombie (1943) as a calypso singer, The Ghost Ship (1943), The Curse of the Cat People (1944), To Have and Have Not (1945), Brute Force (1947) and The Buccaneer (1958). He also made television appearances, such as in The Andy Griffith Show (1967). Sir Lancelot contributed to the popularisation of calypso in North America; Harry Belafonte cited him as an influence.
