Biography
'Sister' Carol East, also known as Sister Carol, is a Jamaican-born American reggae recording artist and actress. Born Carol Theresa East on 15 January 1959 in Kingston, Jamaica, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 14. She earned a degree in education from the City College of New York.
East has appeared in several films directed by Jonathan Demme, including Something Wild (1986) as Dottie, Married to the Mob (1988) as Rita "Hello Gorgeous" Harcourt, and Rachel Getting Married (2008) as a Wedding Guest. She is also credited as Waiting Woman in Ricki and the Flash (2015), and her songs have featured in various films. One of only three women nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, she performs under names including Black Cinderella.
