Biography
Sonia dos Humildes (1939–1980) was a Brazilian actress, director and producer from Salvador, Bahia. She began in amateur theatre as a teenager and, at 17, joined the first cohort of the School of Theatre at the University of Bahia in 1956. She graduated in 1959 and appeared in productions including A Streetcar Named Desire.
Dos Humildes made her screen debut in 1964 as Dadá in Glauber Rocha’s Black God, White Devil (Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol). She remained active in Bahian theatre through the 1960s and 1970s, co-founding the Teatro Livre da Bahia and performing in works such as Cordel at international festivals. She also appeared in the films O Anjo Negro (1972) and Joana Angélica (1979), and later undertook community theatre projects in the sertão.
