Biography
Sophie Darlington is a British wildlife cinematographer and director of photography. She left Ireland at the age of 19 and moved to Tanzania, where she trained as a filming apprentice with cinematographer Hugo van Lawick on the Serengeti plains.
Her credits include cinematography on the BBC series Planet Earth II (2016) and Dynasties (2018), director of photography on Our Planet (2019) and A Perfect Planet (2021) for Netflix and the BBC, and work on Disney Nature films including Bears (2014) and Penguins (2019). She was part of the core team that won the BAFTA for Photography Factual on The Hunt (2015). In 2025 she became the first dedicated wildlife cinematographer invited to join the American Society of Cinematographers.
