Biography
Sophie Kauer is a British-German cellist and actress. Born in London in 2001, she began playing the cello at the age of eight and was accepted into the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music 18 months later, where she studied on a scholarship. She later studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Torleif Thedéen.
Kauer made her screen acting debut as Olga Metkina in Todd Field’s TÁR (2022), opposite Cate Blanchett. She performed the cello live in the film and recorded portions of Elgar’s Cello Concerto for the soundtrack. In 2023 she signed with Deutsche Grammophon and released her debut EP Unsung. She has a further film role as Helena in All Five Eyes.
