Biography
Spanky Manikan (born Manuel S. Manikan) was a Filipino actor who worked in theatre, film and television. He was born in Manila on 22 March 1942 and died there on 14 January 2018.
He began his career in theatre with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) in 1972 and later appeared with companies including Tanghalang Pilipino. His film roles include Gido in Lino Brocka’s Manila in the Claws of Light (1975), a part in Bona (1980) and Orly in Ishmael Bernal’s Himala (1982), for which he received Best Supporting Actor awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival and the Catholic Mass Media Awards. He also worked in international productions and on Philippine television series.
Manikan died of stage-four lung cancer.
