Biography
Stanisław Milski, also known as Stanisław Hołyst, was a Polish actor, theatre director and manager. Born on 8 February 1897 in Czchów, he trained at ballet school in Poznań before an injury turned his interests to stage design and acting. He began performing in 1916 and appeared in theatres across Poland, including Vilnius, Katowice, Poznań, Lviv, Kraków, Łódź and Toruń. He also worked as a radio presenter and narrator from 1937 and directed productions in the 1930s and later.
From the early 1950s Milski became known for supporting roles in Polish cinema and was often described as a master of the cameo. His credits include A Generation (1955), The Noose (1958) as Rybicki, Ashes and Diamonds (1958) as Pieniążek, Knights of the Teutonic Order (1960), Pharaoh (1966) as High Priest Mefres and How I Unleashed World War II (1970). He received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and a State Award. Milski died in Warsaw on 4 September 1972.
