Biography
Steffi Duna was a Hungarian-born actress. Born Erzsébet Berindey in Budapest, she trained as a ballet dancer at the Budapest Opera and began performing on stage in Europe while still in her teens. She appeared in London productions including Noël Coward's Words and Music before moving to New York in 1932.
She made her Broadway debut as Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera (1933) and entered films with the British comedy The Indiscretions of Eve (1932). In Hollywood from 1934, she appeared in supporting roles, often as characters of Latin American or exotic origin. Her credits include La Cucaracha (1934), Dancing Pirate (1936), Anthony Adverse (1936) as Neleta, Waterloo Bridge (1940) as Lydia and The Great McGinty (1940) as the Dancing Girl. She retired from acting after 1940.
Duna was married to actors John Carroll (1935–1938) and Dennis O'Keefe (1940 until his death in 1968). She died in Beverly Hills, California, in 1992.
