Biography
Steffi Kühnert is a German actress. She was born on 19 February 1963 in East Berlin. After an apprenticeship as a tailor, she studied acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin from 1981 to 1985.
She worked extensively in theatre in the German Democratic Republic, including as an ensemble member at the National Theatre in Weimar from 1988 to 1992. After reunification she appeared at theatres including in Bochum, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg and Zurich. Since 2005 she has been a member of the ensemble at the Schaubühne in Berlin, and since 2009 she has been a professor of acting at the Ernst Busch Academy. She has also directed theatre since 2017.
Kühnert is known for film roles including in Grill Point (2002), The White Ribbon (2009) as the Pastor's Wife, We Are the Night (2010), Stopped on Track (2011) and Kleo (2022) as Margot Honecker. She received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1993.
