Biography
Stephen Macht is an American actor and director. Born in Philadelphia in 1942, he graduated from Dartmouth College, earned a master's degree from Tufts University and a PhD in dramatic literature from Indiana University, and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He taught at Smith College and was a tenured professor at Queens College before entering acting full time.
Macht was spotted by a Universal Studios talent scout while performing at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada in 1975. He is known for recurring roles as David Keeler on Cagney & Lacey (1985–1988), Professor Henry Gerard on Suits (2011), and appearances in The Mentalist (2008), Castle (2009), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and The Monster Squad (1987). He directed one episode of Cagney & Lacey in 1988. He is the father of actor Gabriel Macht.
