Biography
Stephen McGann is an English actor born on 2 February 1963 in Kensington, Liverpool. He began his professional career in 1982 in the West End musical Yakety Yak and has worked extensively in British theatre and on screen.
McGann is best known for portraying Dr Patrick Turner in the BBC series Call the Midwife (2012–present). Earlier television roles include Sean Reynolds in Emmerdale (1999–2002) and appearances in Casualty (2004 and 2007). He has also performed in stage productions such as Blood Brothers (1989), 'Art' (2003) and the original West End cast of Footloose (2006).
He is one of four acting brothers, alongside Joe, Paul and Mark McGann. McGann has been married to screenwriter Heidi Thomas, creator of Call the Midwife, since 1990; they have one son.
