Biography
Steve Franks is an American screenwriter, director and producer. A southern California native, he earned a BA in English from the University of California, Irvine in 1991 and studied film at Loyola Marymount University. While a graduate student, his first screenplay was purchased by Columbia Pictures; he devised the story for the 1999 comedy Big Daddy and co-wrote the screenplay with Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler.
Franks created the USA Network series Psych (2006–2014), serving as writer, executive producer and showrunner; he also wrote and directed the television films Psych: The Movie (2017), Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020) and Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021). He was executive producer and showrunner on the CBS series Rush Hour (2016) and fronted the band The Friendly Indians, which recorded the theme song for Psych.
